Tilemancer
Speaking of artistic centaurs and tools, here’s a generative tool you can use right now. Tilemancer is a node-based tile-generator for limited palette 2D tiling textures.
The UI has some counterintuitive bits (click and drag up and down to change numbers) but it’s a nifty little tool. This tutorial may help.

I’m sure you can think of some creative ways to use the tiles you make.
