Nethack hadn’t released a new version for 12 years, since 3.4.3 came out in 2003. That changed yesterday.

NetHack 3.6.0, finally released by the enigmatic DevTeam.

NetHack is one of the big five roguelikes from the Usenet era. It’s still one of the more significant roguelikes, one of the ones that comes to mind whenever anyone mentions roguelikes. A descendant of Hack, NetHack piled on everything, including the kitchen sink, in a dense array of interactions that makes it one of most idiosyncratic and expressive games around.

Yes, there is literally a kitchen sink in the game.
